NFL Week 7 DraftKings Main Slate Breakdown

October 24, 2021 · Peter MacFarlane · NFL

Welcome to week seven of the Add More Funds DraftKings Main Slate Rundown. Remember, this will be a weekly column going forward and we are very excited to bring you high-level content using tools from our website. At AMF, we want to help both the experienced-player and beginners alike. To do this, every week we will release our favorite weekend classic slate plays. We will go position by position highlighting different price points. We will try to find the plays that provide value, whether they are underpriced or possibly, projected to be under-owned. Plays will be denoted as cash game or tournament specific.

Last week we recommended plays such as Matt Stafford (26.24 points 4th on the main slate), Darrell Henderson (24.7 points 4th on the main slate), Jonathan Taylor (31.8 points 1st on the main slate), and Ricky Seals-Jones (15.8 points 4th on the main slate).

Here is our week seven NFL DraftKings main slate rundown.

Quarterback:

Aaron Rodgers ($7,500) Prefer in tournaments but is still strong in cash

At home against Washington, this sets up as a great spot to deploy Rodgers, especially in tournaments. The Washington defense has been ripped apart by all three elite QBs they have faced this season (Mahomes, Herbert, Allen) to a tune of 1095 passing yards with each quarterback hitting the 300-yard bonus. After his week one stinker, Rodgers has been the definition of consistent with at least two TD’s passing in every game and a floor of nineteen DK points. The best part about Rodgers in tournaments is you know who to stack him with. Pair him up with Davante Adams ($8900) and you are well on your

Jalen Hurts ($6,900) Prefer in cash but will sprinkle in tournaments

Nothing about the Raiders defense is that intimidating. Hurts will have enough time in the pocket to make throws and when he gets pressured we know he will take off which is equally good for fantasy owners. Hurts has still never had a game where he’s failed to hit 20 DK points as a starter. I don’t think this week will be his first. Confidently play him in cash, but a possible Smith ($5,400) stack (or a different pass-catching option that you prefer) with a run back of Waller ($6,700) looks very appealing.

Daniel Jones ($5,400) Tournament specific play

This is the flop lag play. Everybody was on him two weeks ago against Dallas and then he got hurt. Last week (when no one played him) he gutted out a poor performance against a tough Rams defense. Now he gets a Panthers team who looked strong against inferior teams through five weeks but was just exposed last week by Kirk Cousins for 31.52 DK points. I think this is a potential get-right spot for the Giants and would expect the game to go over a total of forty-three points. Feel free to pair with whichever Giant's receiver is healthiest and run it back with Hubbard ($6,100).

Other QB thoughts:

Don’t be afraid to play Murray ($8,500) or Mahomes ($8,400) in tournaments stacked with top weapons. I think that allows you to pay up to be contrarian. I do think you can do a bit better in cash, however. I’m off Stafford ($7,100) and Goff ($5,000) this week in their “revenge game” spots due to a very poor expected game script. No thank you to Justin Fields ($5,300) either, as he’s simply not running enough to make up for his paltry throwing numbers. Tannehill ($6,400) in a bounce-back spot against the Chiefs defense coming off a primetime flop is not a bad play in both cash and tournaments.

Running Back:

Derrick Henry ($9,200) Play in all formats.

There is usually a running back or two that stands out above the crowd. In 2016 it was David Johnson, 2017 and 2018 it was Todd Gurley, and in 2019 it was Mccaffrey. But since the start of last season, and really about halfway through 2019, those willing to pay up at RB for Henry have been very profitable. Looking at our AMF tools it is almost laughable what Henry is doing. Through six games, he has 162 rush attempts (1st) only three other backs have 100. None of which have more than 111. Henry also has 26 red zone attempts (2nd), 783 rushing yards (1st), ten rushing touchdowns (1st) next closest is at five, and eight red zone rushing touchdowns (1st). And that is only his rushing numbers. With sixteen catches on the season already we have seen growth in his passing role which is simply the cherry on top. Get used to seeing Henry in this column most weeks. It is silly not to play him.

Darrell Henderson ($6,600) Prefer in cash but will sprinkle in tournaments

Last week I wrote up Henderson, and this is part of what I said. “With four games of DK point totals between 15.7 and 17.2 points, we can see the consistency he provides. You can expect a few catches and the goal line back role. In a Sean Mcvay offense against a Giants team unlikely to be able to sustain drives, I love Hendersons' week six outlook.” Well, that turned out well to a tune of 24.7 DK points. This week none of that changes except the opponent. They play the Lions at home as a projected sixteen and a half-point favorite. According to our AMF tools, he is playing on 80% of the Rams offensive snaps. That is safely in third behind only Alvin Kamara and Najee Harris. This is a smash spot. Do not overthink it.

Leonard Fournette ($6,400) Cash-specific play.

I know I know. You want a cheap running back play. I just don’t think this is the week to do it. Fournette is playing 60% of the snaps this season and 70% of the snaps since week four. He also has commanded goal-line duties and a strong receiving role (25 catches for 213 yards through 6 six games). Facing a league average Bears defense I expect the Bucs to get up and lean on Fournette. Fournette feels very cash play to me but I don’t hate it in a tournament lineup that doesn’t have any other Bucs.

Other RB thoughts:

Aaron Jones ($7,500) is not bad in a game the Packers could run away with. Darrell Williams ($5,800) also showed a stronger role than I expected last week and is underpriced. If Chase Edmonds misses then James Conner ($5,600) immediately vaults into pseudo-must-play territory in cash against a brutal Texans team. I am passing on Mixon ($6,500), Jacobs ($6,200), Barkley ($6,700) if he plays, and any back in the Dolphins versus Falcons game.

Wide Receivers:

Davante Adams ($8,900) Play in all formats.

I have written him up before and will write him up again. Adams is playing about 50-60% of his snaps from the slot each week. He is playing against Washington this week. Washington has allowed Keenan Allen (9-100), Sterling Shepard (9-94), Cole Beasley (11-98), Tyreek Hill (9-76) all to eat against them in the slot this year. Matt Lafleur is a strong offensive coach and knows where to attack defenses. Adams, who according to our receiving tools is already second in the league in both air yards (799) and targets (66) will get peppered early and often.

Brandin Cooks ($6,000) Prefer in cash but will sprinkle in tournaments

This is a play I am having a hard grasp on for expected ownership. On one hand, Cooks is a receiver on the Texans with Davis Mills as his quarterback. But on the other, he is the CLEAR go-to guy for his team as he is fourth in the league in air yards (738), third in target share (33%), fifth in catches (40), and due for positive touchdown regression as he only has one. I am confidently ripping Cooks in cash and using him as my run-back option in Cardinals tournament stacks.

Jaylen Waddle ($5,600) Prefer in cash but will sprinkle in tournaments

I was shocked to learn that Waddle is tied for tenth in the league in receptions this year (37). And with Devante Parker ($5,000) ailing his role should only continue to increase. Waddle does have a paltry 5.4 Adot which has resulted in only 265 air yards on the season. I see this for Waddle specifically as a good thing. The Dolphins are getting the ball in his hands and with his athletic ability, he is always viable to take a bubble screen or a slant to the house. Plus, in DraftKings ppr friendly format, he has a nice floor for not that heavy of a price.

Other WR thoughts:

Cooper Kupp ($8,400) is in a great spot and Hopkins ($7,700) is in a decent spot, but how much will their teams throw? Calvin Ridley ($6,600) is due for a breakout game, but I feel like every tout is writing him up, so I saved him for this space. I am off all of the Cincinnati receivers this week as well as the Baltimore ones as I feel that will be a slow-paced lower-scoring game. I am fading Arizona receivers completely in cash but may run one at most with Kyler in tournaments. Mecole Hardman’s ($4,300) role is expanding, and I could see a breakout game if Tyreek Hill ($8,600) finally does miss a week.

Tight Ends:

Mike Gesicki ($4,700) Cash-specific play.

Since week three Gesicki leads all tight ends in receptions and is third in air yards (314). Against an unimposing Falcons defense, I think he is a solid play this week. I would not recommend running both him and Waddle in Cash but in tournaments that could be a very nice stack with Tua Tagovailoa ($5,500) that we just saw pay off on the London slate.

Robert Tonyan ($3,500) Tournament specific play

Not the sexiest tight end play, but at this price, I don’t mind Tonyan. He runs a lot of routes from the slot (see Davante Adams write-up above) and is a proven touchdown scorer (eleven touchdowns just last year). If the Packers get into a more pass-heavy approach this week I think he could smash this price and give you great leverage off the more popular plays Kelce ($7,600), Waller ($6,700), and Andrews ($6,000) who are all significantly more expensive.

Other TE thoughts:

With quite a few teams on bye this week, the position is pretty void of options. I don’t hate paying up for one of the big guys in Kelce ($7,600), Waller ($6,700), or Andrews ($6,000), but I don’t think any of their spots stand out as exceptional. That is leading me in cash to go to Gesicki and in tournaments trying to either stack my tight end with my quarterback or find a low-owned punt play with touchdown equity.

Defense:

Cardinals ($3,100) Cash-specific play.

At home against Davis Mills at this price? I am not overthinking this and paying up a bit for defense in a spot that could get ugly fast.

Jets ($2,400) Tournament specific play

Most people in this game will be on the Patriot's defense ($2,900), and for good reason. But in tournaments, one of the best ways to separate yourself is finding a low-owned defense who has a big game. Well, the Jets fit the mold of a team with that potential. Facing a rookie quarterback who has gotten pretty beaten up so far this season, I could see the Jets getting a defensive touchdown as well as some sacks. That would be enough to make this a game-changing play in your lineup.
