NFL Week 14 DraftKings Main Slate Breakdown

December 11, 2021 · Peter MacFarlane · NFL

Welcome to week fourteen of the Add More Funds DraftKings Main Slate Rundown. Remember, this is a weekly column. We are very excited to bring you high-level content using tools from our website. At AMF, we want to help both the experienced-player and beginners alike. To do this, every week we will release our favorite weekend classic slate plays. We will go position by position highlighting different price points. We will try to find the plays that provide value, whether they are underpriced or possibly, projected to be under-owned. Plays will be denoted as cash game or tournament specific.

Here is our week fourteen NFL DraftKings main slate rundown.

Quarterback:

Josh Allen ($7800) Prefer in tournaments

Allen faces the Buccaneers this week and their strong pass game funnel. The Buccaneers are ranked 24th in DvP at the quarterback spot this year. Coming off a loss in which they struggled to run the ball and the passing game was obviously challenged by the weather, I think they look to air it out here in Florida. Another piece of this is that Allen just played poorly on an island game spot which should lead to depressed ownership for the QB with arguably the highest ceiling on the slate. Finally, if need be this is the last game of the slate so you will have pivot options if need be such as Brady ($7,200), Herbert ($7,100), or Burrow ($6,000).

Russell Wilson ($6,600) Prefer in tournaments

Russell gets a great get-right spot here on the road against Houston. Houston is terrible and will be starting Davis Mills the rest of the way which should help Seattle get a few short fields and plenty of opportunities to possess the ball. I think he’s played poorly enough this year (along with the rest of his team) that he’s becoming underrated again. Let’s use that to our advantage and deploy him in tournaments at a depressed ownership rate against a team looking to lose. Oh, and by the way, he’s got some excellent pieces to stack with, in Lockett ($6,700) and Metcalf ($6,500).

Taysom Hill ($5,600) Cash-game play

Last week I discussed Mike Glennon as a basement-priced cash game play QB. That did not work even though Glennon got plenty of opportunity with 44 pass attempts. Hill, however, is a different player against a weaker opposition. Last week against a good Dallas Defense he ran for over 100 yards and threw for another 264. He did have four interceptions but still managed 27.7 DK points. If we can get a rushing TD this week and cut down on the picks we won’t need nearly the total rush yards output to match last week and smash value.

Other QB thoughts:

This week it's a pass for me in all formats on bottom barrel quarterbacks Zach Wilson, Glennon/Fromm (whoever starts for the Giants), and Davis Mills. I will look at Mahomes in tournaments and maybe some Dak stacks as well. I like Tom Brady similar to every week and I think ignoring him against Buffalo is a mistake.

Running Back:

Austin Ekeler ($8,300) Play in all formats

This guy is money every week he’s healthy and playing. In twelve games he only has four of which have been under 19 DK points. He also has fifteen touchdowns this season with eight on the ground and seven through the air showing access to a very high ceiling. Our AMF tools show he has 56 receptions on the season (third for an RB) and 518 yards (tied for first with Patterson) so he’s been a stalwart through the air. Add to the fact that Keenan Allen will be missing this week and I like his chances to lead the team in both rushing and receiving yards. This guy is the building block for all cash game lineups this week.

Leonard Fournette ($7,400) Prefer in cash but is still strong in tournaments

Did you watch the Pats-Bills game Monday night? Or how about the Colts-Bills game a few weeks ago? This Bills team is struggling to stop the run at levels that will have pass game enthusiast Bruce Arians ready to turn around and hand it off thirty times on Sunday. If Fournette gets 18+ of those with his usual pass game work (AMF sort tools for running backs shows he’s squarely in the same receiving tier as Ekeler, Harris, Patterson, and Swift this year as the best receiving backs) then he’ll be a play that will be winning people lots of money.

Jeff Wilson ($4,400) Cash-game play

Listen, when Elijah Mitchell is healthy this is his backfield. But for this week he’s out, along with Sermon. Jamycal Hasty is a good pass-catching back but has thirteen carries this year. This play is all about opportunity cost. Broken down simpler you only have to pay $4,400 for the opportunity to play a Kyle Shanahan lead back against a Bengals team giving up the 23rd most points to running backs. I think Wilson will be in my final cash game lineup.

Other RB thoughts:

Antonio Gibson and Josh Jacobs are not as fun as many other backs to play but in that 6k range they are a good value and likely will go overlooked. Alvin Kamara could always go off if he really will see his regular workload. Count me out on the Dallas and Cleveland backs this week. I don’t like the matchup and think they will cannibalize each other's ceiling more than usual.

Wide Receivers:

Stefon Diggs ($8,100) Play in all formats.

He somewhat had his 2021 breakout game against the Jets in week ten with an 8-162-1 line on thirteen targets. That resulted in 33.2 DK points but I think his ceiling is even higher than that this week. As mentioned in the Allen writeup above this Bucs defense is a massive pass game funnel and I think Diggs can excel in any game script. If the Bills are up they have shown a willingness to keep throwing (and if they are up I would guess Diggs had a big hand in that). And if they are trailing I think Diggs target count could get crazy high. Add to that that his underlying stats are great as AMF shows he has the fourth most air yards, ninth in targets, and second in end zone targets.

Hunter Renfrow ($5,800) Cash-game play

I wrote this last week “with Darren Waller out Henry Ruggs Renfrow just has too large of a role to ignore. I still don't think the upside is that high but he is capable of enough volume that if one of those catches does happen to be a touchdown he can still easily squeak into a winning tournament lineup if you want. I will note I heavily prefer him and slot receivers in general as cash plays.” All of that is still true and now he gets to face the Chiefs defense which although improved will likely be playing with a lead and allowing a lot of the receptions in the areas Renfrow thrives in. AMF has Renfrow for the ninth most receptions this year too which plays great in DK cash games.

Jalen Guyton/Josh Palmer ($3,400/$3,000) Prefer in tournaments

There will be some websites/writers that will argue these two should be played in cash. I would mostly disagree with that as I think the floor for both is still quite low. However, the upside is there for both of them. In tournaments, I think a great fade is Mike Williams ($6,000) who is a bit jump ball dependent and at half the price there’s a good chance that the leading receiver this week on the Chargers is from these cheap options. I still think Ekeler is the Charger to own but don’t ignore these two if you’re going expensive at other positions.

Other WR thoughts:

Julio Jones ($5,400) is back and by the far the most talented healthy receiver on the Titans. I’m not sure if I want to be overweight or under on him yet, but I think I will likely roll with really low (possibly zero) ownership and hope he’s either not fully or that they choose to keep running the ball. Brandon Aiyuk ($5,800) is a decent tournament flyer if Deebo sits again if you can stomach the inconsistency. I will of course have a good amount of Tyreek exposure as well against the Raiders ($8,500).

Tight Ends:

Quick statement on the position this week. The tight end position is abysmal on the main slate this week. I once again recommend pairing your tourney quarterback with a tight end and just hoping for a touchdown.

George Kittle ($6,900) Prefer in tournaments

He showed his absolute game-breaking upside last week against Seattle. However, week to week his floor can be quite low which at almost 7k makes him pretty thin for cash game lineups. With Deebo still likely out I think he’s a good tournament pivot off of Kelce ($7,400) and Gronk ($6,000) who will both be owned at a high percentage.

James O’Shaughnessy ($2,900) Cash-game play only

With Dan Arnold on IR, it’s O’Shaughnessy’s gig in Jacksonville now. Not that that is super exciting but at $2,900 you only need three catches for thirty yards to feel decent about this play. Anything past that and you have exceeded value at the slate's toughest position.

Other TE thoughts:

Nobody is excited to play Kyle Pitts or Mark Andrews this week but I think both are additional good tournament pivots. I think for most lineups I am either spending sub 3k or up to at least Pitts at 5.5k.

Defense:

Seahawks ($3,100) Play in all formats

The clear top play on the slate is Seattle getting Davis Mills. Even with Jamal Adams out, Seattle should find plenty of ways to get pressure and force sacks/turnovers.

Ravens ($2,800) Prefer in tournaments

Admittedly I am a sucker for this Ravens defense even amidst the incredibly long list of injuries. However, they bring pressure at a crazy high rate and are facing an injured Baker Mayfield. Does that not scream upside?
